Metro's Reduced Fare Application Process

Bring or mail your application and proof of disability to:

Proof of disability must include a letter verifying a total and permanent disability from:

  • Veteran's Administration
  • Social Security
  • Psysiatrist
  • Medicaid Aid to the Disabled
  • NYS Commission for the Blind
  • Supplemental Security Aid to the Disabled (SSI-AD)
  • Olmsted Center for the Visually Impaired
  • U.S. Assoc. for the Education & Rehabilitation of the Blind & Visually Impaired
  • Office of Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD)
  • Epilepsy Foundation
  • Certified Social Worker or Rehabilitation Counselor
  • Certified Occupational or Physical Therapist

If the applicant must be accompanied by a personal care aide in order to travel, this must also be verified by one of the above agencies or healthcare professionals.

Once your disability has been verified, an Acceptance for Reduced Fare Benefits Letter will be sent to you. This letter, along with $2.00 and proof of identity must be brought to the Reduced Fare Photo I.D. site. Proof of identity may include:

  • Employment card w/photo
  • Expired Reduced Fare ID Card
  • Unemployment Insurance Book
  • Social Security Card
  • NYS Driver. s License
  • NYS Non-Driver. s License
  • Union Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport

Reduced Fare photo sessions are held as follows:

3rd Wednesday of every month:

Metropolitan Transportation Center

2nd Monday of every other month:

Transportation Center at Portage Road
11th and Portage
Niagara Falls, NY
10:00 AM to noon

Applicants for reduced fare benefits must be pre-approved prior to the photo session or the photo ID card can not be issued. Please call the NFTA Eligibility Coordinator at 855-7360 (voice) or 855-7650 (TDD) for emergency photo sessions.
